Originally worn under the armpit, the sgian dubh came to be tucked into the garter, or hose, by way of displaying concealed weapons when entering a friend's home. This practice has lasted through the centuries, and now it is considered an essential part of highland dress. This dummy sgian dubh is made entirely from hard black plastic, with a chrome 'butt' and topaz (yellow) stone for decoration. This style is preferred when it's not suitable to wear a real bladed sgian dubh, for example when flying.

Nice little item for those of you who don't like real knives. Also good if you are like me and fly a lot and don't want trouble with TSA.

This sgian dubh, although fake, has nice chrome and amber-colored stone on top. As only the top shows out of the hose anyway, it is ideal for “show” in an informal setting, plus the grandkids won’t get hurt on the blade if Grandpa lets them look at it up close. This would make a good party favor for boys!
